On his way home on the night of Sept. 17, while crossing railroad tracks, Raju heard a voice calling out, "Jesus! Jesus!" over and over. As Christians are a rarity in his area, hearing the name of Jesus being called out, especially at night by the railroad tracks was startling. When Raju went to investigate, he found a man laying on the ground, hidden from view, in terrible condition whose foot had been severed by a passing train. Raju quickly called for help and a small group of people gathered, someone contacted the authorities and the man was transported to a local hospital. Raju accompanied him to the hospital where he was stabalized and his right leg was amputated.
As he waited with him for help, the man told Raju that he had been laying there for some time, unable to call out for help until he was finally able to muster the strength to cry out to Jesus in pain. And it was at just that moment that Raju was crossing the tracks and heard him. For the rest of his life, this man will tell the story of how he was near death and cried out to Jesus and God sent a Christian minister to answer him right at that moment.

Raju has continued visiting the man as he begins the painful task of recovery. He has brought him food and even purchased a blood transfusion to help him recover his strength. The man's family is very poor and, because they are Hindus, not on good terms with their Christian relative. Raju is looking for room in a Christian orphanage where this gentleman can be boarded and help with the children when he is ready to be released from the hospital.
